Re: Puliing engine on '86 3.0 OMC
John,

Not sure what kind of boat it is, but I just pulled the 3.0 out of my 1988 bayliner this past fall. Here's a quick overview of what I did.

1. Disconnect wires at the battery or turn the switch to 'off' if you have one.
2. DIsconnect all wires from engine, and label them or draw a diagram.
3. If it's fresh waret cooled with a heat exchanger, disconnect all water lines from heat exchanger and remove.
4. Disconnect fuel line from tank to fuel pump and plug it.
5. Disconnect throttle (what I did was remove the entire assembly where the throttle and shift cables attach to the engine.)
6. Remove the two nuts on the sides of the bellhousing.
7. Remove the two lag bolts that hold the front mount to the bay floor.
Attach th elift and get the engine off the floor about 1/4 inch.
8. Slide the engine forward to disengage the outdrive shaft from the coupler, then lift the engine out the rest of the way.

You might want to pull the outdrive too, since you're likely going to have to realign the engine when reinstalling, but it wasn't necessary for me when removing the engine. I am pulling the outdrive to do an alignment when reinstalling the engine as I only want to have to do this once this year!

Hope I didn't miss anything. Just use common sense and take your time, it's pretty simple.
