Does the pull start housing really need to be mounted on the engine? I have never been able to pull start it and the electric start works fine. I have a '72 25hp rude. It's just an extra step if I'm working on the motor or electrical, and extra parts to keep up with, not a big pain, but does it have to be there?<br />Thanks

No, I don't think you have to have it. I think I remember some engines where it wasn't included. There's provisions in the flywheel for emergency starting with a rope with a knot in the end. Just make sure you've got a suitable rope aboard and try it out before you find yourself in a sticky situation.
