I have a Chrysler 1971 55HP. I have read other post about using a rope to pull start a motor. Can I do this with my engine? If so, how? What would the procedures be? Where would I rap the rope around? Flywheel gear? Would like to know, in case the need to arises.
Thanks

Re: Pull starting motor

If you look at the top of the flywheel you will see it has a notched area where the knot of a rope will fit. A rope similar to a clothes line rope or an anchor rope will work. Tie a knot on the end and wrap it around 2 or 3 times. Rotation must be clockwise. This is only for emergencies only. You can not rig a recoil type starter for a 55 HP

Re: Pull starting motor

You can pull start if you have magneto ignition. If you have battery and coils ignition OR Magna Power electronic ignition, then there MUST be sufficient power in the battery to fire the coils. In either case, remember that the ignition key still needs to be in the run position.
