I have Yankee Girl back in the driveway for some work to be done and I want to replace the bilge pump used for the live well. I looked here for a replacement but my discharge says 5/8 on the male end that connects to the hose. Will I need some sort of adapter or are there 5/8" discharge pumps. I also plan on painting it with water based bottom paint. It was a mess.
Ideas? Comments? Thanks.

I'm not sure about the 5/8" pump, but I'm sure a hardware store can provide an adapter.

Thanks EGlideRider,
Is there any preference to brand of pumps for this use? I think mine is a Johnson. I can't read it but its yellow. Also these cartridge pumps. Are they a shell and the pump itself a cartridge? Meaning pop out a bad one and put in a new one in the same case?

I don't have enough experience to recommend one brand over another, but I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable guys here will soon chime in with recommendations. The ones I've seen would need a complete replacement.

Most likely a Mayfair pump if it has a cartridge. Yes they are replaceable, screw one out, the other in. Google Mayfair cartridges, I don't know if iboats sells them so I won't post a link.

If it has been in the water you might just want to relplace the whole assembly, I think the discharges are pretty universal, if one pump fit others should too.

I have a Johnson cartridge pump on my pontoon. Yes, the case stays on the boat and just the cartridge is replaced. A small leaver is pulled out and the cartridge is turned about a 1/4 turn and lifted out of the case. A new cartridge is inserted and turned until it locks. Here's a thumb nail of mine. Mine I have to unbolt and move out to get clearance but if there's nothing above the unit the cartridge can just be lifted out. Also a link to the cartridges for this pump. My case says 500 gph but I have a 750 gph cartridge in it. I deceided I needed a little more after I bought the pump so I just picked up the higher volume cartridge. I'll save the 500 for a backup.

Mayfair must have sold out to Johnson, that is a Mayfair cartridge in the Cabela's link. My Mayfair pumps look just like your Johnson pumps.

I have had really good luck with the mayfairs, I have one a a recirculating pump on my livewell and it has run for weeks on the timer, runs 30 seconds every 3 minutes, also have them as pump in and out so I ruun 3 of them and have enver had a problem.

The only Johnson pump I have seen was red, never had one though.

Sounds like you want a circulating pump.
