I am pulling a 4.3GL VP sx-m setup from a 2000 Larson. I pulled the harness, five bolts (one missing) in the back that couples the engine block to the _____(?)_____, larges nuts from the motor mounts, water lines, carburetor linkage, batter cables, starter wires. Mainly I am concerned there is something with the out drive that must be disconnected that I am unaware of. I am trying to take it somewhere with a forklift and want to make sure I have most everything ready when I get the boat there.

Thanks for any help.

The out drive must be removed as the drive shaft fits into the flywheel.

The engine will not slide forward? I expect to remove the 3 motor mount bolts on each side.

Nope, it's designed that the drive is pulled, 'n the motor lifted straight up, 'n out,.....

The drive is only 6 nuts, 'n the trim rams, to pull it,....

Also, the flywheel cover oughta stay with the motor, unbolt it from the inner transom plate, 2 bolts,....

The front motor mounts, ya pull the lag bolts outa the hull, 'n keep the entire mount on the motor,....

Thanks guys, I greatly appreciate the information. Is the out drive something I can handle by myself weight wise? Seems like the Mercruiser drive pulled from a 3.0 years ago wasn't too awfully bad, but that was a few years back.

I see now. When the drive spline comes out the flywheel housing will lift straight up and off the main bolts/buts holding the engine in place-a bit different than a car. The 4 nuts are the two large ones at the front motor mounts and the two shown below with the large washers at the back of the engine. First is P side nut

Ayuh,..... Maybe 100lbs,.... Jack up the wagon tongue as high as it'll go, 'n ya probably won't have to lift it off at all, just rock it back, 'n off on the skeg,....

Yer front motor mounts are different than the Mercs I always see,....
Rarely to never do Volvos,...

Thanks again...got it off...no skeg, but a nice cozy blanket waiting for it.. Maybe I will convert my old o/b stand to a skeg. Here are the exact steps:

1. Remove 3 screws holding plastic cover:

Step 2: Remove the pin, nut and the brass fitting that is threaded onto the shift cable. The brass fitting must be removed as it will not fit through the hole on the out drive:

Step 2.jpg

Step 3: Remove the six nuts. I used a swivel and socket, but I suspect a wrench would work also:

Step 4.jpg

Step 5. Now make sure the out drive is supported. I adjusted my trim so it was just touching the blanket I had on the floor. Remove the e-clip w/ flat screwdriver and gently tap where I have placed the yellow circle until the rod to comes out of the other side. Drive should now come off by pulling back away from the boat:

Thanks to Bondo and dypcdiver for their direction.
