Getting ready to pull my 4.3 OMC....just wondering if anyone had any tips on the best places to secure the chain....also what bolt size I'd need for pulling the motor and putting on the engine stand?

Thanks

Re: Pulling a 4.3

Both my 4.3 and 7.4 have lifting lugs ( loops ) on the engine.

I would think yours does too. Mibe are located at the front and rear of the block up close to the top.

3/8" or 1/2 " chain should lift that motor just fine.

JDtower23,

Have you EVER pulled a motor?
Your gonna have fun "IF", this is your first go at it.
Just don't get to "HAPPY", (drunk) when you do it....
Remember....You got to put it back!
Good luck,

1/4" chain is more than enough to pull it. IIRC, the bolts for the stand are 3/8-16. I also used the lifting eyes already present. I'm guessing yours are absent?

whenever I take something very complicated apart with the knowledge that I have to put it back together, I use a digital camera to take a lot of pictures as things come off, and put small loose parts in zip lock bags labeled with a sharpie. Just a thought... Between that and having the service manual canm save a huge amount ot fime and frustration getting things back together...

Good luck!

i used the holes on the ends of the heads. have done a dozen or so that way. they are 3/8x16 thread. there should also be lifting loops on your intake manifold. one front one back. or you can pull the carb and buy a bracket that bolts in its place with a central lifting loop.
