Hi. on my 67 v4 is it possible to pull the head cover only to inspect comb. chambers ect. without disturbing the head gasket, R&R of the head bolts?
Thing is I have a new set of head cover gaskets burning a hole in my pocket, and no real reason to remover the heads, I just want to have a look at the water passages and combustion chambers.

Re: Pulling head cover question

You wont see into the combustion chambers by pulling the head covers off, you will only see the water passages. If you want to see the combustion chambers you have to pull the head off or find a borescope.
If your compression is good and there are no running problems with the motor there is no reason to take it apart.
Let those gaskets keep burning that hole in your pocket and dont go looking for work, thats my 2 cents worth.
