I am going to pull the motor in my boat tommorrow to check the back of the block to see if it is split or a soft plug pushed out. My question is wouldnt it be easier to undo the base bolts on the front mount and pull the front motor mountwith the motor. If I did it that way wouldnt it stay lined up for the shaft from the outdrive to stay lined up when I put it back in?

nope
remove the drive, remove the mount bolts to stringer up front, remove the two aft mount bolts and remove wireing, fuel lines, and accesories as needed.
any other way and you will be posting about shaft coulpler failures.
they are cheap though.

Yes, but like rodbolt says, pull the drive first or you will damage the coupler. probably not while taking it apart, but when trying to get the washers back in place under the rear mounts when you put it back together. Plus you still need to do an alignment check anytime you R&R the engine.

If Alignment Was Measured,... It would be in Thousandths of an Inch..........

Reguardless of How you pull the motor,....
You've got Less than a 50/50 Chance of it Still being Aligned.............

In Other Words,...... Skipping the Alignment process is a Roll of the Dice,.......
Odds are Not in Your favor..............

I've Offered to give you a hand,+ Even posted an email address(which I've since deleted),+ You haven't even Tried to contact me.........
But,.... Sorry Bondo, I didnt mean to offend you if I did. I thought I replied back and thanked you for being there if I needed you. I didnt remember seeing an email address. I guess I should read things better. If you feel that I offended you then I would like to apologize. I thought you meant to contact you on this site if I ran into problems, which god knows I will

J. Kopec. Speaking of Syracuse, do you have any relatives there? I ran a marina in Henderson Harbor and there were two people named Kopec?

J
the t-stat loop is for engine alinment only. not designed to support the engine weight. should be a bracket on the port rear and the stbd front side. I personally would not trust the t-stat hosing or bolts to support the engine.

Re: pulling motor- 120 horse mercruiser

I found the brackets you were talking about. They look a lot stronger. Thx. I believe the engine and coupler are way out of alignment. It took two hours of pulling and prying with a large screwdriver to get the outdrive off. I dont believe it will take that long to pull the engine.
