pulling risers w/o water in heads

i need to pull my risers on my closed cooling(anitfreeze in manifolds, water in riser) 5.7 due to a leaky 90 deg. fitting. my question is how do i pull without getting water down in the manifold and then into the head and cylinder?

Not sure with your engine but check the underside of your manifolds at the rear of the engine, do you have a plug or hose attached, if so drain it from there or any part lower than the manifold

You need to drain the A/F in that manifold ,then remove the 2 brass drain plugs in the riser.
shouldnt have more than a drop or two getting loose

and yes i know the drains in the manifolds, i understand that part, i just dont want alot of raw water to fill the head

pull the lower hose off the water pump, that will drain the block down to the water pump inlet/outlets

ok i lied, it does have one plug on each but on the top.

dont think so, should be 2 brass plugs ,one on each side near the mounting studs
