Hello everyone! First I would just like to introduce myself. My name is Chris and I am from Harford co. Maryland. I stumbled across this site while doing some research on my boat and can already tell there is a LOT of knowledge on here.

I recently aquired a 14 ft Starcraft that i plan on using primarily as a crabbing boat but also a little bit of fishing. The title says that it is a 1973 and was wondering if anyone could confirm this. The plate on the transom is long gone so I have no idea. I was looking at a couple other threads and i am thinking possibly a Seafarer?? The measurments are: 14ft length, 60" wide at widest pt, and 23" deep in middle, transom is 57" wide 16" tall. The bottom is a semi-V i believe. Was also wondering what the max hp would be. It has only one brace in the back as opposed to some i have seen that have 3.

here are some pics (hope this works)

That is all for now but i know i will have more questions to come. Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow Starcraft owners as well!

Welcome. The single knee is typical for a SC of that age. Nice little rig. Replacing the third seat might help to strengthen the hull.

Thanks everyone. Scott, I am from the fallston area but went to North Harford. I go crabbing off mariner point in joppatown every now and then.

Bananaboater, thanks for the tip. Currently the seats are just pressure treated 5/4 decking boards. I have heard that pr. treated wood is not good for aluminum, any truth to this? Also 4 of the 6 L brackets for the seats are missing. Are these just standard brackets or should i try to get oe (or close to oe) replacements?

Hey Chris, welcome! Nice utility rig there!:)

You are probably rated at 25 hp for that boat, some were 35 but 25 would be plenty.

Those L brackets would be very good for boat structure, strength for those bench seats, and such. Finding some sort of replacement would prolly be a good move.

Have fun crabbin!

The PT and aluminum thing is NO JOKE. They've even changed building codes to deal with the problem. That's a real nice rig. I would say it's good for 20-25 HP being as high sided as it is.

When they switched to the "new" pressure treated lumber, it caused havoc in the construction industry because the chemicals would literally dissolve screws and brackets within months. Any metal screws or brackets that touch the PT wood will need to be stainless steel to combat the effects of the chemicals and last for any amount of time.

Welcome aboard WV, nice utility rig you've got:)

I'd want to get those benches bolted back in for lateral integrity, or weld some side braces in place for support if you want to keep the deck open for crabbing.

The ebay description said 60's, what do you guys think? They are just plastic so i was thinking closer to 70's or 80's???

Ez is a buzz kill..
You go right ahead with those old school nostalgic badges..

These young whippersnappers and their fancy schmancy vinyl stickers and such..what do they know!

I like the old badges, my boat is a '79 but my data plate is of 60s vintage just 'cause:D
