I had a wake up call July 4th. I had my wife and two young kids in the boat for a little fishing and crusing. I turned on the bait well because I wanted to flush out some fishy smell from the day before. I left it on longer than I inteded because I forgot to turn it off. No big deal right? Bait well are meant to run all the time. This time, there was a rag in there which was used to clean it some the day before. The rag clogged the drain and it overflowed into the area right in front of the motor with a hatch that should be sealed that leads into the bilge.
We were waiting for the fireworks to start and my wife said, "Huh, how come there's water squirting out of the side of the boat?"
Good thing the auto bilge pump works, otherwise we'd all have been swimming back to the boat ramp. DUH !!
Major wake up call.
