Purchasing a Boat- Newbie Help

I am fairly new to the whole boat world. I have just recently purchased a home on a lake so the next logical step is for me to get a boat. <br /><br />I found a 1997 16' Sea Rayder with 120HP for sale. It comes with boat, trailer (galvanized), top, cover, skis, tube, and pull ropes.<br /><br />It seems to be in great condition. There were no stress fractures in the fiberglass. They are asking $4000 for everything. This seems like a great price. <br /><br />I guess my questions would be:<br />1) What things should I be asking to make sure this is a good deal?<br /><br />2) This boat in good condition for that price, is it a good deal?

go and personally look at it possibly with someone who is more knowledgable about boats in general. look at the hull condition, interior condition, check for any soft spots or rot. also, dont overlook the engine. im assuming its an o/b (not for sure) so check the compression and maybe water test it to see how everything works/ runs. 4000 isnt a bad deal, just make sure you look into the boat more before you go and buy it.

check www.buc.com and www.nadaguides.com to get an idea on price. read the fine print, prices may or may not include trailer, that engine, etc.<br /><br />then check iboats and the numerous other sites that sell used boats. try to find comps and see the prices.<br /><br />a whole lot of info on this board telling you what to look for, start with the search feature.<br /><br />after a few hours, you'll be much smarter on the whole process. come on back and ask more questions.

thanks for the input guys. i have been searching around and reading up as much as i can. I am sure that it comes with everything. I have already gone down that path. The engine is in inboard 120 HP mercruiser.<br />it has been used both in fresh water and salt water.

isn't a sea rayder a jet boat? shguld have "inboard" outboard like powerhead and jet drive

spoma - Even if it looks great have a professional check it out or be prepared to potentially spend some serious bucks. For example the exhaust manifolds and risers may be ready to be replaced (rust - internal & you can't see it from the outside).
