I just finished pulling out a 30' cable from my throttle control to a BF225 through the boat and need to order another one. The old cable sheathing has been cut and has rusted through so its beyond repair. When I'm looking for a new one to order I see both "push pull" and "low friction" type cables and being quite different in price. Also I see either "obsolete" or "call us" for the 30' lengths of low friction. So, what is the difference between the low friction and push pull cables? Your sage advice will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Push Pull vs Low Friction Cables

"Push-Pull" applies to all OB RC cables. "Low-Friction" is a fairly "modern" term, and is basically a marketing terminology. The 30-foot (9.1-m) Morse-style cables are still available. In our shop, we typically use the Hi-Lex cables, which are relatively high performance at a moderate cost. The Tohatsu number (since we are a Tohatsu shop) for your specified cable is Part# HC49J96-30FT, $59.25, and fits any modern RC box. Unless there is a compelling reason otherwise, we would normally replace both the throttle and shift cables at the same time.
