Hey guys been reading a lot of threads pertaining to bent push rods. My Head is at the machine shop getting a crack fixed and the valves reseated. Now, since the head is not being shaved, am I safe to presume that I will be able to just put my Rods back in their same holes, center them on the lifter and torque em to specs? I really do not want to bend a push rod right after I put It back together. Any info is greatly appreciated.

P.S. "My brain hurts from absorbing so much 470 info" LOL

Re: Push Rods And Lifters?

When I had my head done (new exhaust seats and replaced a valve), my machinist (who has experience with 470 heads) told me that he measured my valve stem height before and after, and since there was no appreciable change, just put the lifters back in the holes they came out of and it would be OK. It was. My knowledge in this area is sadly lacking, so I assumed that he knew what he was talking about. You might ask your machinist about it. Good luck.

It sure wouldn't hurt to check them.

Generally, when the pushrod length is incorrect, the rocker will not sit correctly on the valve tip,( in the center of it) and cause it to be mis shaped and damaged. (the valve tip)

The rod length may be effected by milling the heads, machining the deck of the block or different thickness head gaskets. You could ask the machinist about yours.

I believe pushrods become bent from the valve not wanting to move, like trying to compress water, or a rusted or bent valve, or not enough clearance between the valve and top of piston. Which happens in high profile/performance cams.

Checking would be much easier than repairing a mistake, I'll work on getting the compressing tool. Thanks guys ya'll are very helpful.
