Boat: 92 Fisher pontoon 24ft
Motor: 1996 mariner magnum EFI 150
Prop: 25pitch quicksilver

Now I know the prop has way to much pitch for the pontoon but I am wondering if the pitch would make the prop blowout. The boat will get to maybe 10mph and then if you try to go any faster if will just rev to the sky and stop pushing.
The motor is in the lowest hole on the transom.

Any advice on what prop to get or any other reson what would cause this would be great.

I dont have near that much motor, but on my 24 footer with a 90HP Mariner if Im not trimmed down enough, it will blow out at about 10MPH also. I am also in the lowest mounting hole.
The engine pod pushes the water down to where the prop can grab air.
Try lowering your trim.

Maybe watch over the rear of your boat while someone else drives and you will be able to "see" whats going on around your prop area.

One last thing, are you sure your prop is not losing a hub? Do you know the history of the engine/prop?

not sure about the hub, but when I slow back down and get back on the trottle very very slowy it grabs again and will not break loose unless I try to plane the boat out pretty much.
Trim is all the way down when this happens, pulling it up makes it worse.
If it was the hub would it grab at all?

Best bet would be to try another prop. The hub can be bad and still grab to some extent. That 25 pitch prop belongs on a bass boat.A pontoon is a non-planing design.
Lugging the motor that bad with a 25 pitch will soon cause major failure.

You need to see if anyone could give you a loaner prop to try. I would start with a 15 pitch.

I was looking at some more pontoons at the marina and the ones with 115's were all running 15 pitch then I saw a tritoon with a 150 on it and he had a 19 pitch. This motor is EXTREAMLY powerfull and I dont think it woul dhave a problem turning the 19pitch. I just dont know if there are certain props to look for or do you just go by the diamertor and pitch?
There are dozens of differnt brands and names of the same pitch!! its confusing.

There are props made specificaly for pontoon boats. On pontoons the water is very turblent and aeriated so the prop needs to be made specificaly for that environment. Prop styles that work well on a 150 on a 24' V hull probably won't work well on a pontoon.

You need a prop with a larger blade surface area, lower pitch and a design that can handle running in aerated water conditions.

The current prop is likely very small diameter because of the high pitch and is certainly not well suited for that boat. All that torque on such a small diameter and the prop will blow out easily.

My suggestion would be to try a 4 blade solas amita in 17p. This should provide around 14.5 inches of diameter and lots of blade surface area. These 4 blade props can handle lots of engine height without loosing grip so should do well in your case.

They sell them online here for about 100 bucks and shipping is fast. I currently run 4 blade Solas HR Titan (the stainless version) and also an Amita 4 blade aluminium. Both excellent props in my experience.

In many cases a ss may be a better choice. Whatever you decide make sure the model you chose is made for pontoon service.

25p is a lot to swing on a 150 with a toon..

  • All-around performance, 3-blade stainless steel propeller
  • Offers good acceleration and all-around performance
  • Smaller pitch sizes offered in extra large diameter with increased blade area
  • Large ear design is ideal for pontoons, commercial hulls and heavy loads
  • Tough heavy duty rubber bushing smoothes shifting and won?t slip
  • Solas stainless steel propellers feature the industries highest percentage of chromium, nickel and molybdenum materials to resist rust from salt water and increase the stability of the propeller blades.

Applications

New Saturn propellers offer the best performance in:
  • Outboard powered Inflatable?s
  • Aluminum
  • Heavy Work
  • Pleasure
  • Runabouts
  • Pontoon boats
  • Sterndrive Houseboats
Theres a big eared pusher....I have no ideal if a 17 would be the right prop

as long as the prop doesnt blowout I am pretty sure this motor would push a 19p, I think I found a marina that will let me try some props before I buy one I doubt they will have what I need anyways but im sure they have something closer than this thing! lol

I like the prop you showed me and will probly end up going with something close to that the more I read about them. But I have seen a couple tritoons running 19pitch props with 150's. And it seems the toons with 115's are running 15pitch. The 17 might be perfect, I was just saying that I think it migt push a 19p but in that same prop you showed me.

A 14.5x15 would work with that motor boat combo, that is what I am running on mine and I hit 40 at 5k rpm
