Finally got my 57 Johnson 5.5 horse running good and mounted up. It was in very bad cosmetic shape so I repainted it. I was going to go with the original maroon/white scheme, but I never cared much for that combo. I prefer the white scheme Johnson went to, so I went that route. All this so the boat can sit in the garage until spring.. :(

Cool. I've got a similar project ahead, if I can ever figure out which of my old motors to use a boat kicker. Is the kicker mount an after-market bracket, one that raises and lowers? How did you seal the mounting holes? Is that steering link aftermarket? Always want the details before I jump in too.

Re: Put my "new" kicker on

The bracket is one of those basic ones that have a ratcheting mechanism to hold it in different heights. 3M 5200 is always my sealant of choice. The linkage is one I fabbed by threading a zinc plated steel rod for heim joints on each end. It allows the main to be tilted and steered with the kicker still hooked up. There is no binding anywhere, but it took a lot of trial and error. I did not dissasemble the motor, it was a purely exterior paint job.
