Putting a Johnson 50hp 2 cyl away for the winter

This past early summer I purchased a 2001 Lowe 170se boat motor and trailer combo, all factory. It has the Johnson 50hp 2 cylinder 2 cycle Outboard on it. I got all the manuals with the boat motor and trailer. I was reading the Johnson book and it shows and lists a fogging port (at the primer cylinder) to fog the motor with. I have always just fogged the carbs, put some into the gas, and sprayed Sea Foam into the cylinders, and replaced the plugs on my other Outboards.

Is it really necessary to use this fogging port? In order to do so I would have to purchase the Johnson fogging oil in the pressurized can with the tire fitting. I used Sea Foam to de-carbonize the engine before putting it on the water after I got it, checked the compression yesterday 140/150 cold. I know it can't hurt, but my question is does it do anything that I don't already do? I will also change the plugs, and fuel filter before putting it to bed for the winter, or before putting it in the water next spring.

Thanks for any advise from anyone with engine know how!

That port is a convenience item / time saver.----Nothing wrong with spraying oil into the carburetor while running.---That puts oil into the motor to coat everything.--No need to put oil into sparkplug holes if you fog a running motor.

Thanks Racerone! Appreciate it, that is what I thought. Saves me the expense of buying the overpriced Johnson product.
