my patient is a 69 Thermoglass 17.5 bowrider I/O

serious rot in the engine mounts, transom and stringers resulted in complete gutting of the rear 3/4 of the boat (front quarter was good and I didn't want to lift the top off)

new transom is in and glassed
new stringers and engine mounts are in and glassed.

time for the floor and I was just about to start tonight when it hit me....this probably won't work!

I'm starting at the back of the boat and I have a sheet of ply cut to the width of the boat, leaving about a 1/4 inch gap at the sides (as per original). then I cut a big U out of the ply for where the engine will be (oil pan below level of the floor). I was planning on turning the ply upside down and glassing the bottom side with excess mat/cloth sticking out all around to tie into the transom and sides. after that resin had cured, I would put it in the boat unglassed side up, and resin the tabs to the sides and transom. then glass the top, also tabbing the top to the sides and transom (all this as per original)
Then it occurred to me, if I glass only 1 side of the ply and let it cure, it will probably warp like crazy and then won't sit in the boat properly except under tension which I don't think would be good.

any thoughts, caveats, warnings, BTDT's....?

how have others done it when putting in new floor? Is my concern about warping unwarranted?

Why don't you just coat the bottom with resin and laminate the top surface with glass and resin after you install the floor. I don't think the plywood will warp if you laminate one side at a time.

saturate the wood in resin, both sides - as much as it will absorb - then do the fiberglass (both sides) while it's still tacky, you'll get good adhesion. Then glass it in...you'll have one extra layer of fiberglass on top.
