Hey guys I need some help and it might be a stupid question, but I would prefer to ask and not have any accidents.

I have a 14' fiberglass boat with just a small 20h motor.

When I put the boat on the trailer, I have a small winch on the trailer to pull the boat up with that attaches to an eye bolted into the front of the boat (sorry dont know the technical terms)

And at the back of the boat I use a rachet trap fasned to the trailer and then tightened really tight to the frame of the trailer.

Is this the safest way to move my boat even going down the high way at 65mph/110kmh??

thanks

Sound good; that is what i do with my jon boat.

Two things you might want to look into...

1. Transom saver to brace your motor
2. I use a chain to also hook into the eye of the boat in case i have a winch strap failure.

I would suggest one additional safety factor. Do not rely on the winch strap alone. Attach a chain with S hooks to the bow eye and to the trailer. This will hold your boat in the invent your winch strap loosens or breaks.

Does your trailer have a bow stop/roller?
Assuming yes, then your winch cable/strap would attach to the bow eye or "U" bolt and pull it up tight to the bow stop/roller from underneath. This holds the bow tight and down while moving. And, you should have a safety chain attached in case the winch cable loosens or breaks.

A transom saver prevents the lower unit from bouncing up and down.

You connect it between your lower unit and your trailer frame.

you don't need a transom saver for a 20, if at all. especially if your transom doesn't hang out too far past the rollers.

When I was very young, I had a small boat that towed to the local phosphate pits around Lakeland Fl. Yeah forgot to put a bolt through the trailer coupler and to add insult to injury didn't connect the trailer safety chains to the truck. Trust me it's a bad feeling to look in the rearview and see your little boat headed for the ditch. All's well that ends well and to this day I make sure all's secure.

Safe boating ya'll
