I am in the process of installing a new CMC PT-130 onto my 88 Bayliner Capri, with the Force 125hp engine. I patched up the original holes that were drilled in the transom, for the motor due to the new unit having different mounting holes. I patched them with a Woonden Dowel, Marine Epoxy, and then coating the outside 1/4" with Marine Tex as stated in these forums.

I just drilled one small pilot hole before drilling the 1/2" holes for the new mount, and found that the wood has water in it. I had a little trickle of water coming down the back of the transom as I pulled the drill back out. This is scaring me. The wood looks good, or what I can see that came out on the tip of the drill bit.

I have no cracks or any other ways on the transom, top, inside or outside where water could get into it. I have thoroughly looked it over and found no leaks, but I could have missed one somewhere, but it is not in the open for sure.

What should I do about this?

Also, I have placed some Marine Tex over the old holes in the transom and also pulled the plastic bumper type part at the very tope of the transom. This was held on with 3m 5200 very thickly coating this. I then sanded this all down and then covered all the cracks and the gelcoat wtih the Marine Tex. I then have sanded down the Marine Tex to a smooth surface. Should this be painted or coated with something other than just leaving it as the Marine Tex showing? This will mostly be hidden behind the new transom jack and under the engine cowling, so it really won't be seen.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan Cox
