My 78 1400 Has A Remote Pwr Trim Motor With Dual Silinoids. It Has Pwr Going To The Motor On Both Blue And Green Wire When I Push Either Up Or Down. The Silinoids Click But Motor Wont Spin Either Way. Tells Me I Had A Motor Failure And It Needs Torn Into. I Have Never Worked On A Trim Motor (inside) Any Words Of Advice On The Subject Of This New Project.

Is There A Kit Or Manual.

I Have The Clymer But Doesn't Break Down The Trim Motor.

Thanks For All The Help So Far.

Both solenoids 'click'? At the same time?
Only one or the other, not both.
I've run into one that had shorted wires in the control arm that caused BOTH solenoids to trigger together, locking up the trim motor effectively trying to turn BOTH directions at once.

Unplug the trim harness, use a remote starter button and trigger one solenoid at a time, does it work correctly? If so, start checking the trim switch wiring for the problem.

I miss spoke. If I push up the up solenoid button it clicks. If I push the down button the down solenoid clicks.... I think only one's clicking. I never considered that both might be clicking at the same time. I'll double check that to be sure.
Thanks for the advice.

I just finished replacing the motor on my 1985 trim pump. I'm a mechanical idiot, so if I can do it, you certainly can! I bought it from iboats too (insert shameless plug here). One thing - the replacement square motor is longer(higher) than the OEM and the side bracket will NOT fit at the bottom! Attach the black negative wire that used to go at the bottom of the bracket and pump to the terminal on the top solenoid and you will be good to go!

Tramp, That motor has two windings, and a common ground wire. Green and Blue wires get +12V from the solenoids for up and down movement. The black wire is the common ground and should have a clean connection.

Check that you are really getting +12V on the green and blue wires when they click. if so, check continuity through the motor green wire to black, blue wire to black. There is a bi-metal overload (a crude circuit breaker)inside the motor. Sometimes they get some junk between the contacts, causing the motor to not have contunity.

Also, the motor used on your T/T is difficult to find aftermarket. Doublecheck the part number, since the pumps used in later model motors look the same, but the armatures are shorter than yours, and do not interchange.
