I've never worked on one of those. WBeaton has and if I recall, the coils are very difficult to find but with some modification, you may be able to use the more modern coils. I believe it's a pain to work on the lower unit as well.
Myself, I'd work on the CD first. I like the looks of those QD-10's but would not fix it, unless it was my granddad's motor. In your case, I'd have to give it a try but would expect to have to round up some parts and plan on putting a lot of time and more than usual money into it.

The paint and such is high, but Peter is a good fellow to do business with and sells good quality stuff. The best, I think. You could always send it to him and let him restore it for you!
