QD-20 Ignition Coil replacement & Plug wires

Hey All, My first post to the forum, been looking around for a while.

I have a Johnson QD-20 motor that ran last year, but I could not get it to start this year. I decided to rebuild the carb and update some of the ignition components based on the threads here.

After removing the spark plugs I noticed one, the top one, was used, but the bottom plug looked brand new - bad coil probably.

I ordered the parts, and started to disasemble the carb and ignition components. I just need a little help with the ignition coils. When I took the old ones off the plug wires just kinda fell off, they looked broken. I haven't received the new coils yet (possibly tomorrow or Monday for arrival). How will the plug wires connect to the coil?

Also, I'm going to regrease various area's that look like they need it (bottom of armature plate, throttle gear areas, etc.). What type of grease should I use?

After I reassemble the carb, is this the correct method of adjusting the fast/slow idle adjustments?

Thanks in advance.

I have that same engine.

The coil has a spike for the plug wire, don't push the wire straight on, I broke my new coil doing that,

look carefully and you'll see the spike is twisted almost like a thread on a screw, screw the plug wire onto it.

Do the water pump if you haven't already, impellor cost $12.

Thanks,

I got the new coils yesterday, just as you described them. Monday I get the rest of my ignition parts.

In checking the state of the impellor, I found out that the seal on the prop shaft was no good, half of the gear box was filled with water. So I've ordered a new set of seals for the lower end.
I'm having a hard time tracking down if I need to add any sealant to the the gaskets when they come in. The old ones (speghetti gasket & O-Ring) looked like there was some sort of sealant in addition to the gasket.

Thanks in advance

I use non-hardening Permatex No.2 to seal the skeg back on the lower unit.
