I'm working on a 1962 Johnson 10hp. Replaced the impeller and she pumps water like crazy. However, there are two small holes in the upper leg on either side of the driveshaft (you can see the driveshaft through the holes - water is shooting out of those holes. Are they supposed to be plugged? hole.JPG

NO, they are not supposed to be plugged. And water isn't supposed to be up there anyway. You probably have some parts missing from the water pump. Like the #305304 spacer and seals that go with it. A very worn out water pump housing can contribute to it also. That water being that high can cause extreme damage to the bearings in the powerhead. You gotta fix it.

Purchased/installed the spacer and no more water shooting out those upper holes!
