Hi Gang,

I'm looking at buying my first boat and since I don't know that much about them and I'm looking at spending around $15k it seems like hiring a marine surveyor would be a good investment. The boats I'm looking at are in Fox Lake, IL and Waterford, MI any ideas how I find a surveyor in those areas? Is a surveyor a good idea for me?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Quality Surveyor

A Marine Survey for a used boat is essential, unless you are buying it cheap enough that it doesn't matter, and then it is probably still essential in order to make sure that the hull is safe for you and your family. In this area, they are listed in the Yellow pages under "Surveyors-Marine". Ask them for references and check them out before hiring.

If you still do not find one to your liking, any marina should be able to give you a lead. Just make sure he has no affiliation with the marina.
