Question about adding Fiberglass molded section to boat

If I want to make a fiberglass mold for part of my boat (a new dash, some separators between the seats, would I directly attach those parts to the hull AND the cap of the boat, or just the cap and NOT the hull. I'm just not sure how much the boat flexes or stretches when it is moving, I don't want to create some type of molding and then have it cracked because it is too stiff. The cap of the boat seams to have been glued onto the hull with some time of glue, and then was riveted on all the way around. All of that was covered with a padding strip. Any advise is appreciated, Thanks!

The cap is attached with the rivets. The "glue" you see is jus sealant to keep water spray from getting through the gap and into the boat. I would not make anything that permanently joins the cap to the hull. I would just do what you want to the cap and then you could still remove the cap if need be later on.

Re: Question about adding Fiberglass molded section to boat

dont over think this thing bud..... build what you want... its your boat.

what you add will have little or no effect on the plaining surface of the hull...

just glass your new dash on to the existing area....

in the hull extension thread.... there is detailed information on making molds....a new dash board.... and detailed pictures of the inner working of your standard boat

it also has very comprehencive info on all aspects of fiberglassing .... the index is on the first page (its a massive thread)

cheers
