Hey there,
I've got a 30 year old 25hp Johnson Seahorse that my grandfather bought new back in the day. The model number is 25RL75B. I don't have any reference pictures of my own but for all intents and purposes the engine looks like this: (http://sacramento.craigslist.org/boa/378602755.html) Recent work amounts to the replacement of a cylinder head which had been a problem for the last decade. The impeller was replaced in the late 90's and so was the entire pullcord assembly.
Anyway, this motor will move my boat at a pretty good clip even with four large guys inside. Unfortunately what I've been running into lately is that sometimes when I open the motor up all the way it slips. The engine revs extremely high but we don't move and I have to back it off to regain propulsion. My guess is this is the fault of a loose prop?
Anybody run into something like this before and find it was something else? (And probably much more expensive to fix?)
