Question about auxillary motor mount

Hi ya'll! New here to the forum! I've got a couple of questions about mounting a Panther Marine auxillary motor mount to my 1990 Skeeter. I'm planning on mounting on the drivers side just outside the transom (there is a somewhat flat spot on the hull there that looks like my best bet). The mount came with the hardware, and I'm manufacturing a backing plate for the inside of the hull (for added strength when mounting to fiberglass). I'm also planning on using an old ESD mat (thin rubber) and cutting some gaskets to keep the metal portions of the mount off of the hull.

Has anyone ever done one of these? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!! If anyone has pics of thiers that would be great too!

Thanks all!

Re: Question about auxillary motor mount

use dow 4200 to seal the holes, don't count on the rubber for a gasket. coat the bolt with it, then clean up the excess.

Re: Question about auxillary motor mount

I recently installed the 20hp Panther auxiliary motor bracket. Is yours the 10 hp aluminum bracket or is it the stainless steel 20 hp model? If it is the 10 hp version, Cableas sells a plate that permits the removal of the motor and bracket, leaving only the adapter.

Whether it is the fixed bracket or the adapter plate, both benefit from a solid attachment. The rubber will allow movement between the gel coat and the bracket base; eventually chafing through the rubber and on into the gel coat resulting in movement while under way(in the water or on the trailer). Cutting strips to fit the foot of the racket from a more rigid material will be more to your liking. Thin cutting sheets from the kitchen come to mind; also mylar or teflon strips.

I've got the 10 hp Stainless model. I'll have to look into the adapter, as I would hate to sell my boat with the mount attached (wouldn't want to leave holes!). I've got some b-half aircraft fuel cell epoxy (stuff works wonders) to seal the holes with. Thanks for the advice guys!

If I'm not mistaken, the transom adapter is for the narrow base aluminum model.

Since the day you sell the boat will be one of the two happiest days of your life, 4 holes in the transom will be of small concern.:D

Absolutely true! The only part that sucks is that I cant mount to the transom. The stern on the old Skeeter is not flat like a deep-v and it's looking like I'm going to have to custom manufacture something to mount the Panther to. I'll posts some pics when I get it done!
