I guess its called banking, Like at a beach when you pull your boat up and tie off of something. Question is, How do you keep you boat strait in the water, Perpendicular to the bank. We went out today and Cant get the boat from drifting sideways into land. Usually isnt a big deal but when there are other boats close or a rocky beach it sux,Thanks

Called an anchor. Place it on the windward or tidal side. When either the tide changes or the wind shifts just move it to another location. Easy situation to remedy is use two, one off each corner of the stern.:D

I think your referring to "beaching". Beaching the bow is not very hull friendly, but common nonetheless. Most people beach enough of the boat that it does not move. I don't know where you are, but if you're boating in a lake it's easier. Otherwise, pay attention to the tides or you may be stranded. Most people around here (with larger than jon boats) use two anchors. One from the bow, boat pointed into the waves/current, and one from the stern to hold position. Choose your initial depth based on what the tides are doing.

Re: Question about Banking a boat

I hate to beach, but I do it a lot . . . I use a slide hammer stake, anchor, deal, thing that drives fairly deep into the sand. This thing is made for beaching and if you pull the line tight enough the stern won't usually swing.

Slide Anchor (this one shows being used to hold your stern secure at anchor, but everyone uses them as I described where we boat, which is where they are made)

Also, a huge tip for you . . . get every one to sit as far aft as you can when you come onto the beach. You don't need to drive her up on there hard. Then when every body gets off (you too), pull up on your bow and onto the beach. Pulling up is key. If you do your beaching with any weight forward, she'll fail to stick every time once everyone gets off. Same thing when leaving. Either mover her deeper before everyone gets on, or have them all go to the stern or you won't get her off without a bunch of power in reverse . . . If you do this and use some sort of good strong tie up to the beach directly off the bow eye, you may get away without the second line. Also, keep and eye on her. If she starts to move off or turn a little, drag her up and on again. Sometimes it takes constant maintenance.

Thanks dellas, Some good Ideas, Today we were in a 24Ft Pontoon and tied off to a tree, I think we need a better anchor off the rear, should help a lot. We were using a 12Lb plastic. Small anchor for this size boat I gues, Thanks again

actually a boat that size you should drop the stearn anchor, with slack line, then move into the shore, and tie off to the tree. you need scope(angle) on the line to hold dropping straight down will do nothing.

Do the slide anchors come with the installer or is that an option? :D

Lol on the slide anchor
I make people, including myself, get wet: no fiberglass against sand.
It gets enough abuse on the roll-on, during a windy day.
