After reading the post about Sea Foam I did my engine. 2 times and have enough for the third. Would a longer soak time, say 3-4 hours hurt or help. I keep the boat in a boat house so getting it in and out the water isn?t an issue. 1991 60hp Evinrude. Any opinions welcome. Thanks

My opinion - the longer the soak time the better.

What method did you use?

Re: Question about De-carbing

dimock...isn't seafoam great? I use it in my truck (cummins) and lawnmower and ATV now with great results. I use 3 gallons of gas/oil mix and one can of seafoam. Go fishing and run at around 2500 rpm for 15 min...then fish for a couple of hours...then move to another hole...run around 2500rpm for 15 min...fish...and so on until it all out. You HAVE to be careful with seafoam because it is hot...meaning if you run the engine hard with that kind of mix in it you can burn up an engine. I've done that on my old merc 1150 and it works great...I just aquired a 140 Johnson that I'm going to deep creep (seafoam spray) but just waiting for folks to chime in on the best method...I don't know of the lubricity of seafoam and would hate to score a cylinder or something by spraying it into a cylinder....takes longer but I may just stick with my method of gas can and seafoam and keep doing it until I can flashlight my pistons and they are clean on top. I know they'll always have some black on them but you can see carbon...your exhaust will also quit stinking and smoking so bad after it finally cleans up. After you get back to your regulard mix...(done with seafoam) let her rip. I've heard of folks mixing half a can per 20 or so gallons every fill up...I know that sounds like overdoing it but as we all know coking is BAD...also make sure you have your rpms in the proper range....isn't this place great?

I did the 3/4 gallon mix for 15 min. Drift fish for 15 min. Did it twice. I agree with the longer the better theory, but wanted to see if there were any negitives.

Still hot in TX so drifting in the afternoon sun for 15 min was all I needed and I wanted to stay near home. And no I'am not bright enough to go out in the morning.

Didn't caught no stinkin fish anyway. Thanks for the reply

Sea Foam is Great and so is this forum. Great people here and very helpful. I'm going to add to gas on a regular basis. Cheaper than loosing a motor
