Question about Dull Gelcoat

Hey everybody, I am having problems restoring the Gelcoat on my new boat. Boat is a 1994 Crownline 225CCR. Everything above the rub-rail is supposed to be a very shiny off-white color. I've tried automotive cleaner wax, rubbing compound, and I have had no luck getting any shine out of this gelcoat. Can somebody point me in the right direction on what I should be using? Or perhaps a website which describes the proper gel coat restoration? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all.

Re: Question about Dull Gelcoat

You will need a circular polisher to help the polishing compound work.then follow it up with a quality wax or polish. You just cant get it if you do it by hand.Charlie

Re: Question about Dull Gelcoat

Mark - I already looked at the pictures of your boat, and I must say it looks beautiful! You did a wonderful job, I just hope I can get the chalky white gelcoat on this crownline to look as good as yours. Thank you for the link. Charlie - the high speed polisher isn't a problem, I already have one of those, however I've never buffed a gelcoat before. I know the gelcoat is thicker than an automotive paint, but I also know that fiberglass will heat up MUCH faster. I'll take a look at this thread and see if I can't figure this out.

Thank you both for your help!
