Question about fogging oils

Hello. I am starting to go through winterizing my boat and motor. I have read the FAQs about winterization, and fogging procedures. Is it ok to use 2 cycle oil to fog with or is actual fogging oil the only thing that should be used? The motor will be stored outside, and the winter temps are usually anywhere from 25-0F. Also, I am planning on rebuilding my carbs this winter, and I would like to know if there would be a problem with storing the motor with the carbs removed?

Thanks.

Re: Question about fogging oils

I think the fogging oil is a lighter oil than the 2 cycle stuff, so it will stay "stuck" to all the moving parts better. I fogged my engine a few weeks ago, and it had the consistency of WD-40 or so.

Regarding the carbs removed, I can't see a problem storing it with them off. Just make sure you cover the carb holes with a piece of plastic or something to keep any "undesirables" out. With the carbs off I'd give her a few more squirts with the fogging oil too.

- Dennis

Re: Question about fogging oils

hello
the fogging oil is designed not to run off the shiney parts while stored. fog it good and remove the carbs but like the previous advice tape or otherwise secure the holes in the intake or critters may make a home in your motor.
