Question About Fuel Additives

Okay I have a 15hp. Johnson mid 80's and no issues!! I want to keep it that way, I see many people who need carb rebuilds no matter the engine size. So is it a good idea to add a fuel additive to prevent the jets from getting varnished up? I know ethanol can ruin carb seals and I try to make every attempt to use gas that has no ethanol. In the fall I usually disconnect the fuel line and run it dry when putting the motor away for winter, so any advice on this and the use of fuel additives would be welcome!!

I've gotten in the habit of not running the gas out of the engine in the fall, as I hate to run the cylinders dry.. I put StaBil in the gas tank and make sure it is in the carb for the winter. Depending on the motor, if you can get to the drain on the carb float bowl, you may want to empty that. You may also want to start running some Seafoam in your gas to reduce carbon buildup. I use two ounces per gallon of gas. I also spray some fogging oil in the cylinders when I put the motor away for the winter.

I always run sea-foam in my fuel. I always fogg my engines and drain the carb(s) in the winter.

Use Stabil Marine in every tank of gas. No problem running a single carb. motor til it's out of gas. Multi carb's not a good idea. Eventually all carbs. need a rebuild/cleaning it seems. It's not necessarily the result of poor maintenance. Best of luck. Rick.

ditto that. I have been a Sea Foam fan for ten years, and have used the product for de-carbing in several engines.
