I posted this here because Id like to ask this of the repair and build experts....I was in SC over the weekend, looking at boats. I learned that Grady-White still uses wood for stringer and transom. Apparently is some sort of treated wood (arsenic treated like wolmanized). Does this really prevent rot? Why do they continue to use wood? Lastly, how much of an issue is wood rot in salt water boats?

Thanks alot.

Re: Question about Grady-White - Use of Wood for Stringer/Transom

wood rot is a problem in all boats......salt or fresh.

it all depends on how well the boat is treated by its owner... i just saw a 35 year old boat that looked brand new and it had never been restored!

they could be using some kind of pressure treated wood.
