Hi there everyone, I bought a new boat with a volvo penta motor and drive on it. Its a 2012 and the drive is a single prop sx.
I was unsure about how the new boats are but is there a grease fitting for the gimble bearing or is it a sealed bearing? also is there a grease fitting on the engine coupler to grease the splines or do you have to remove the drive and do it? I do plan on pulling the drive every couple years but i always like to meet or exceed maintenance intervals to be on the safe side.

Probably not many here have even seen the 2012 SX let alone have experience working on it.
You should have an owners manual, that would be a good start for minimum maintenance requirements.

Says right in the new SX sales literature: "Reduced maintance needs." and "Maintenance free gimbal bearing".

Surely your owners manual has a recommended maintenance checklist and schedule?

You're in uncharted territory here with a rig that new...so until these get older I think you'll be a slave to the dealership, or better yet if you intend to do your own service and the owners manual has nothing but nuggets like "see your authorized dealer", you absolutely should invest in a service manual and all your answers will be right there...

That's just the price you pay for being an early adopter.

Let us know what you find out so you can educate the rest of us!
