Hi guys,
This is my first boat rebuild and im in the process of sanding down the left over firberglass that held the deck and stringers down. I was wondering if anybody could tell me what a good grinder blade is for this job? I got as close as possible with the cutting blade but there is still a little bit left.

Scott you want a flap wheel for the rest Home Depot and Lowes usually stock them in the same area as the regular grinding wheels ( these look like a disk with heavy sandpaper fanned out on it .)

Scott I would go with a 40-60 grit and be very very carefull so you dont burn through :D. You will get the hang of it pretty quick just take your time and keep an eye on how far you have gone and youll be fine :D.

I also find fiber discs on a backup pad helpful- The replacement abrasive discs are only $1.50 ea, as opposed to the $5.50 or so for a flap wheel.

Do you go through quite a few flap discs when sanding fiberglass? I was also wondering if i need to sand right down to the hull or if its ok to leave some of the leftover fiberglass?
