I have a 84 115 Johnson VRO. I just recieved the teleflex water pressure kit and I am just wondering somtihng. I would under the impression that you just tee into the tell tale hose, But I got to thinking and it does not seem right, I am thinking now that the tell tale should feed the gauge only, therefore eliminating the tell tale so you won;t be able to see her pissing anymore . I am correct ? if not then please steer me, I am gogint to install the temp and pressure gauges tomorrow to get ready for a saturday fishing trip. I am also going to do the seafom treatment using earmuffs, instead of a barrel or docked, this should be cool too right?

thanks in advance guys

Re: Question about installing the water pressure gauge

The gauge line T's into the overboard indicator line. You can feed it directly to the gauge, either way is OK. Feeding it direct will result in a (very) slightly higher reading. No big deal either way.

Wow, you would think that there would be no reading due to the pressure being pushed out the tell tale, Thats good though, I like being albe to see her ****, it eases my mind

I believe it works similar to the Bernoulli's Principle-- although it is t-ed into line, it will still read.

Re: Question about installing the water pressure gauge

Some of the kits from OMC used to have a restrictor in them. They said that if the gauge didnt read high enough to put a restrictor in the overboard line after the "T". I always thought that was odd somehow.

With the higher pressure water pump kits we have today that doesn't come up. And the pan fitting the hose hooks to has a fairly small hole in it. Only so much is going out that hose and the gauge is calibrated to read the rest as correct total pressure.

Re: Question about installing the water pressure gauge

Pressure is pressure regardless where you measure it. The key to proper use of a water pressure gauge is to install it and new water pump impeller at the same time. Note the pressure reading at idle and at wide open throttle. Any deviation from those readings in the future indicates a water pressure issue. As for the telltale, there is far more water going out the exhaust than out the tell tale so your thoughts on pressure loss are of no concern. No two engines will present the same identical readings so don't be concerned if you see someone else report readings different from yours. Just install the new impeller at the same time as the gauge. If you don't you have no idea what "normal" pressure is.

Gotcha thanks, I was really hoping I was wrong in my thinking because I like having the tell tale for piece of mind

Re: Question about installing the water pressure gauge

The pressure gauge for my Merc is "T'd" into the tell tale so both functions (pressure and tell tale) are functional. 6-7 PSI at idle, 17 at WOT. You don't have to lose that function.
