Yes, my parents bought me a 75 glastron tri-hull today as a christmas gift, and i want to remove the boat from the trailer and redo the bunks, it has rollers and 4 total bunks. 1 on each side and 2 under boat, well i wanna replace them and well of course re carpet them, question is, would it be ok for me to pull the boat from the trailer and lay it on the ground? or should i pull it off and lay it on some old tires with no rims? i was curious about the tires due to i dont want black marks all under my boat lol

Re: Question About Laying Boat On Ground

it would be absolutely fine to lay it in the grass for a while... a few tires or big wood blocks under it a little forward of center would make it easier to load again. If you are worried about black scuffs, throw an old blanket over them

Thankyou for fast reply sir, i was thinking the blanket idea as well. we still haven't received snow this season
so i think if i hurry i could get it off onto tires and coverd all up because this indiana weather is crazy, that snow will fall when we least expect it, least i can get the trailer mostly done before spring. Thankyou again!

uh......just a quick question for you.....after the boat is on the ground....and you trailer is fixed......uh.....how you gonna get the boat back on the trailer?
that is going to be a real fight bud.

one of the ways to get the boat off the trailer....is to lower the tounge all the way to the ground.....put blocks under the transom....then lift the tounge of the trailer....
then block the center of the boat....then you can pull the trailer out a little till the centre block hits the axel of the trailer. then by lowering the tounge and re blocking.....the trailer comes out.....just leave it on the blocks ....that way.....the boat is up off the ground and is far easier to get back on the trailer....

it will be simple. me and my dad picked the back end up easy today. im just gonna get my Duetz Allis Lawn Tractor, pull her to where i wanna drop her, were gonna begin pulling the boat back, figure out where we should lay the tires then continue pulling and set it on the tires then my sis is gonna beon the tractor and me and dad will be in the front and will lift it she pulls away we set front down, me and my dad are a couple husky guys lol nothing hasent ever stopped us when doing things together LOL

bah, spray a little silicone lube on the bunks and you can winch that little boat on with one hand in less than a minute.... I've winched a 20' cuddy off the ground onto a bunk trailer without any lube several times... that was a bit of a workout but the lil trihull esp with a bit of lube would be cake

lol exactly. i lifted the tounge of it all by myself today as far as it would go today, so get me and dad together and there will be no issues at all getting her off and back on the trailer.

Re: Question About Laying Boat On Ground

Another Hoosier, you are about half way between me and Smoke, I am 15 miutes from the Michigan line( not that anyone would want to go there) right in the center of the state, weather has been pretty decent so far this year but ya I did see the giant storm coming.

I need to get a water pump and lower unit seal kit in anyhow and do some other odds and ends done, I saw a guy out on my way home the other day fishing in the snow and I though I was a rabid fisherman.

Good luck with your project and Opps way of getting the boat on and off the trailer is probabaly the best easiest way to get it done.

Re: Question About Laying Boat On Ground

No need to have her off the trailer... I've replaced MANY bunks without ever removing the boat. First, get the new one ready to go, carpet and all. Get a couple jacks under the keel and stern, and lift the boat up just a little bit. Doesn't need to be more than an inch. You should be able to remove the old bunk and install the new one fairly easily.

Of course, always think about safety. The trailer must be hooked up to a vehicle, and don't get your fingers into any pinch points. Even if the boat were to fall, you are safe under it as there is alot of trailer between you and boat. If you have your fingers where they shouldn't be, that is another story...

Fishing in the snow... The day I saw my father fishing in the snow was the day I no longer felt bad for not being as serious about fishing as he was.
