The motor in question is as '82 Mariner 90 HP I6....I know the exhaust comes down the leg and thru the prop hub, but there are also two smallish ports on the back..midway up that are also exhaust...is it normal for a little bit of water to come out with the exhaust from these ports? Why are these ports there if most of the exhaust goes thru the prop hub?? I'm stymied!!

Thanks

James

Re: Question about mariner exhaust ports

Hi Jamescody,
The ports you are describing double as exhaust and water exit.If your motor has a tell tale stream, you will see a little water coming out of these at idle(maybe) off idle, expect to see more(higher rpm's).Sounds normal so far.... :) Water at any speed coming out is normal. :) Your last question would be best left to the Mercury(and other)designers.
