I have a 1985 75 hp 4cyl outboard, and want to know what are the four slots on either side of the lower portion of the mid section, just above the lower unit for? What are they called?

Thank you

Re: Question about mid section ports

The gratings just above the antiventilation plate are where most of the cooling water is expelled. The rest of it is expelled thru the prop and out the idle relief ports, at the base of the powerhead.

Good. I replaced the water pump assembly, and found the copper pickup tube split from a freeze up. I measured the original piece to be 17 1/2" long. I made the new piece the same, but was afraid it was not seating into the top of the pump, and pouring excess water out those holes. Glad to know it is normal.

Now if I can figure out how to adjust the new throttle cable, and set the idle.
