Question about model numbers

I have a 1972 Johnson 9.5, Model number is 9R-72M. When I do a search for parts it ask me which model I ahve either a 9222 or a 9223, this is confusing me and I am not sure which one I have. There is nothing on the motor to indicate which one of these I have. IS there a huge difference in these?

You're looking at the EVINRUDE listings and those are Evinrude model numbers. Slide the selector to JOHNSON on the BRP site's parts pages...
