Hi I have a 1985 baja with a 115 mercury that is shot., I can p/u a 115 evinrude with controls, guages, totally complete even the battery for almost nothing , my question is are the 4 holes that are drilled through the transom to mount the motor the same for a mercury and Johnson and evinrude?? mercury is on the boat right now cheap fix to switch over to the evinrude but not sure if holes will line up and if not I know I can redrill but not to good on repairing old (fiberglass)ones if necessary or should I wait for a mercury ?,Thanks Bill

Re: question about mounting holes in transom??

Yes. The engine mounting holes should mount up.

There is a BIA standard This is posted elsewhere on the board by seabob so I swiped it for here

Only older Chrysler outboards did not meet the pattern.

Re: question about mounting holes in transom??

Not exactly the same topic but from what ive found my 88 maxum came with a force motor & it now has a mercury on it so i have two holes in the transom that are filled with what appears to be silicone. I take it the force & mercury mounting holes didnt match up so they had to redrill two holes. Would this be a good job for that MARINE TEX to plug those holes? I found it here on iboats.

Yes Marine tex to fill the holes is absolutely fine ........ I would get rid of all silicone that fills holes and replace it with marine tex if you have it on hand..... silicone is known for failure on a boat.
