i just bought the boat a little over a week ago and took it out yesterday. only problem is..after about an hour yesterday, there came a point where if i'm giving it slow, steady throttle...once it gets to a certain point it studders and wants to shut off...if i ease back then it's ok. when it does get to that point if i bring the throttle back and forth a few times, eventually it gets passed that point and gets up to speed and has no problem sustaining 30+ MPH. it's almost like its having problems with fuel so i'd venture to say a carb problem or a fuel filter but then why is it corrected by throttling it back and forth a few times? anyone have any ideas?

Ayuh,.... I Agree with your prognosis,...
It gets over the hump because pumpin' the throttle actuates the acc.pump,...
The acc.pump is independent of the primaries...

so if the boat had been sitting a while before i bought it....he said a year and a half but had started it regularly...then a carb tune or rebuild is in order?

Id start with the idle screws. Take them out(remember how many turns) and spray carb cleaner in and try to blow out the gunk. Next take off the fuel line and blast the inside with more cleaner. last spray in every hole you can find. Start it up and give a little gas and spray down the throat.

This might get you through the rest of the year and then you can rebuild this winter.

I forgot to add that while in neutral, I can give it gas and it runs perfectly through the range of the trottle. It's when the drive is engaged that it does that. What does that tell us?

No Load reving is Meaningless...
