I ran thru about 4 tanks of fuel on the lake Sunday, and after that I pulled the plugs, well kind of strange all three plug surfaces had carbon build up on half of the surface. All three plugs looked the same, have never seen this before. Usually the surface is pretty much all covered with carbon deposit.I am running Amsoil HP injector. Engine is a 1986 85 h.p. These are Champion plugs. I can get pictures if needed.

Re: Question about my spark plugs

My plugs used to do the same until I finally got the air screw setting perfect for my driving style.

so... do you think this is caused by running too rich or too lean?

Re: Question about my spark plugs

Anytime you have carbon build up on the face of the spark plugs it only goes to show you are running too rich or you are idling too long. However, you can tell if you are running too rich by inspecting the plugs after you ran your engine for the day and hopefully you actually ran it at WOT speed. The plugs shouldn't be dripping or dribbling wet. If it is, then there is a possibility you are accumulating carbon and running too rich.

Set the air screws out at 1 turn(factory specks).
