I was wondering if this is something that needs to be addressed ASAP before getting in the water. I have a tear in the "exhaust tube"?
Here are the pictures

Howdy,

It''s an exhaust bellows.

It won't hurt a thing to run it that way.

In Fact, you can remove it and run without it. (My 460 King Cobra ran for about 15 years without one)

It'll just be a little noisier without it and you'll get exhaust closer to the transom at idle.

You NEED to carefully inspect your main drive bellows though. If that one is leaking or torn, it'll cost ya!!!

What Rick said. In fact, a new exhaust bellows will have slits cut in it from the factory.

Re: Question about OMC Cobra..with pics

okay I'll just leave that one alone for now then.
What about this main drive bellow?
Where can I find it and is it easy to replace?
I looked for it in the manual and it only shows me the exhaust bellows when I do a search.

I'm a visual learner.
If anyone has a picture of it and the location that would be great.

Thanks guys for the help.

It's right above the exhaust bellow in you picture, if you tore the old exhaust bellows completely off and out of the way then you could see it.

There are only 2 bellows and your exhaust bellows is torn. The other bellows is the ujoint bellows. Of course if it goes bad, things get real expensive real fast.

Thanks for the heads up guys!
I'll take a look at it.
If it does need to be replaced would I have to remove the entire drive to replace it?
Does anyone have a link to a DIY video?

Yes, but it's not a hard job to pull the drive. It just looks that way. You remove the pin that holds the trim cylinders to the back of the drive, remove the 6 nuts holding the drive on and pull it backwards. It's off.

Might as well get used to it, the drive needs pulled yearly to grease the splines, ujoints, gimbal bearing and check the alignment.

Might as well check out ebay and buy a set of OEM service manuals for your engine and drive. Don't waste your money on aftermarket Seloc or Clymers. Unless you really need expensive knee pads.

The nut off the bottom of the cav plate doesn't belong there, what is it holding? maybe just plugging a hole previously drilled for a whale tail or dole fin?

I see now the cav. plate is actually just below and that is one of the several lower gearcase mounting bolts, it's not a nut at all, my bad.
