Question about part numbers

Ok for all of the gurus out there. I am looking for some parts and am wondering if the A# after the part number makes any difference. Here is what I am dealing with.

Replaces OEM Part #:
Mercury 398-5454 A2
Mercury 398-5454A6
Mercury 398-5454A7
Mercury 398-5454A8
Mercury 398-5454A9
Mercury 398-5454A17
Mercury 398-5454

So if I do a Bay search for the last number on the list i can find more results but with differnt A #s. So will these parts work? even with the different A #?

This is a old stator number and the A2 supercedes to a A7 and no higher. The CDI part number for this is 174-5456 and it is a 9 amp stator..
