question about quicksilver control

My boat has a quicksilver control pretty similar to this here

If I make it just throttle only it is easy to control the engines throttle, but if left to shift the lower unit, AFTER the unit is engaged fully in gear the throttle is stiff and hard to keep precise control, especially when coming from WOT to a slow or no wake zone. I end up going from WOT to idle since the controls are so stiff.

Is there any adjustment or anything that you can do to these controls, or are they just junk once they start acting this way? Any help is appreciated, Id like to go to the lake in the morning and not kiss the windshield when entering a no wake zone.

Re: question about quicksilver control

Thanks Don! I'll go look at the cables, but I don't recall them being tied together. Its only an issue in forward. Reverse is easy. I have the control laying in the seat right now cleaning and lubing it hoping to find what the issue is.
