Question about remote control

I've just removed an 18hp Mercury blueband 2 stroke from my boat and replaced it with a Mercury 110 9.8hp. I was under the impression that the remote cables would be the same for both engines, however, it "appears" that the ones for the 9.8hp need to be longer than the ones I have fitted.

Is there something I am doing wrong or do I need to buy new cabling, if so, how do I determine what I need to buy please?
