Question about safely raising a motor?

I have a 14ft fiberglass Gamefisher with a short shaft 25hp Yamaha. The anti-ventilation plate sits approximately 2 inches below the bottom of the boat. The motor is secured to the boat by the clamp down screws on the motor. Two questions 1) Can I safely shim the motor up with a block of wood? <br />2)Will raising the motor place additional stress on the transom?

1. Yes and 2. No. As long as the clamps are still on the transom and not up on the trim.

Mulv80, Is there a place to install transom bolts? If so, I would consider them. Bolts and clamp screws are more secure, especially if you raise the motor.
