Hi

on the backside on the tachometer in my Capri there is a shift knob I can select 1-2-3 or 4.What is this knob for?number of engine sylinders? If so, what setting should it have when im running a 6 sylinder engine and the boat came with a 4 sylinder engine.

Has nothing to do with a cylinder count. The setting is for your alternator poles. It is usually set to be 1/2 of that number. In other words if you have a 12 pole alternator then you should set it to the #6 position.
Now you just need to find out the info on your alternator. ;)
